I seam to remember them being a sealed unit on my 03 so they could'nt be changed , I never had the tank of my 08 so not sure
unless thet arc or you have a poor spark I'd leave them alone , there are custom companys that will sell you covers if its the colour you want to change.
Has anyone had issues with ther cam chain/cam chain tensioner? There is an irritating noise coming from the engine when cold and I suspect it might be the chain rattling. Mind you, it might also be my phlegmatic lungs in the mornings, but I prefer to blame the bike.
Does anyone know if the HT leads on the XJR are fused to the coil, or if they screw in? I'd like to renew the leads as the bike is prehistoric, but don't want to have to buy a whole coil and leads set.
I might be tempted by some coloured leads to bling things up a little (because I'm shallow and vainglorious), but only if they are not too pricey (because we are in a recession and I'm a tight git). Any ideas, folks?
Now that I'm back from holiday, I've decided to bite off significantly more than I can chew by doing some serious restoration work on the old XJR. Whilst pulling off the carb inlet manifold rubbers (to be replaced with the infamous 36ys) I struggled ferociously with the most ill-thought out heat shield thing placed unhelpfully between the engine and carbs.
I was wondering if anyone else has this ridiculous contraption fitted, and if anyone can tell me what it actually does?
On fist sight it looks like a heat shield, as it has a flat metal "wall" (about 12cm tall and running the width of the bike), with a rubber "apron" thing that hangs down below it and is tucked under all the wiring beneath the carbs. On the other hand, it might be something to stop water splashing the carbs, or even something to keep hot air from the engine away from the rider. Either way, it forms a barrier between the engine and the carbs.
Does anyone have one of these? I've not seen it on other models, and suspect it is on mine either because: a) It's the 1st XJR (1994) and they didn't realise the shield thing was stupid back then; or b) It's a Japanese import and they do strange things to their bikes over there...
Use that Sat Nav thingy you showed when you brought your bike round for me to see. Takes all the fun out of it though mate. I have still got my fingers crossed about coming but at the moment it's very doubtful.
