Got the new toy yesterday and had a short ride home followed by 100 today, 60 with a pillion.

1] Mirrors-need replacing.  Narrow field of view and lage rear blindspot so some longer stemmed round ones will need to be bought.  Angry

2] Indicators-silver, need to be black.  laugh

3] Muck-if it gets that dirty with a mudguard extender what would it look like without?  Undecided

4] Looks like a hugger is in order.  Undecided

5] It feels like the rear preload needs to be upped, possibly the forks too.  Smiley

6] That EXUP valve looks exposed...  Shocked

7] Who thought that the left sidepanel was a good place for the alarm LED?   Angry

8] Flaming heck, the torque!  Pulls cleanly from 30 in top gear.  Fuelling seems smoother than the 900 Hornet too.   Grin

9] It's black and silver, like a proper bike should be.  Not sure about the yellow springs though...

10] Pillion mounting difficult with the Givi V35 boxes fitted.

Jobs done so far.

1] Fitted the Optimate lead.

2] Copperslipped the sidepanel screws.

3] Wrote the alarm override code in my wallet.

Jobs to do.

1] Move the heated grip control so I can fit a satnav holder.

2] Fit the satnav holder.

3] Remove every fixing I will be attacking in the future and copperslip it.

4] Sort the suspension.

5] Get a topbox.

6] Get the running in and first service out of the way.

I hope over all youre happy with it Dave, as for your observations.

1, The older models have longer mirror stems (pre 06), might be worth looking on ebay.

2, No they dont  Wink

3, Cleaning is part of the joy of owning an XJR

4, told you so

5, to many tarts i think...

6, Mine must have fallen off

7, Id be paying a return visit to the dealer, id be furious about that.

8,Smooth as silk is the XJR

9,Should be blue but i guess you have to take what you can get Wink, yellow for Ohlins of course

10,just fit on one side, simple

As for the jobs to do you forgot cleaning

Glad you like it Dave, your point number 8 is a fairly universal reaction and one of the bike's many selling points.

As to the other points, Paul has them pretty well covered; additional comments would be as follows:

3) Motion vigourously seconded (as well as pointing out that Scottoiler FS365, possibly ACF50, and microfibre cloths are an essential part of the XJR owner's armoury)

6) Mine obviously went west when we changed the collector box Grin

7) So would I. New side panel please and do the job tidy this time boys, thank you. (My LED is in the rear light)

10) Campaign for old style mounting blocks (at one time prevalent on village greens) to be reinstated at Biking Venues (one of those steps popular with caravanners might work at home, all joking apart)

As to the jobs to do again I agree with Paul, I would also make one comment which I appreciate is entirely down to personal preference and up to you, but ride it for a bit without satnav. Much more fun. I very rarely even take a map. (There will now be lots of quips about me constantly getting the group lost but that's down to not listening when I'm given instructions, I've never yet failed to find my way somewhere out on my own). Following your nose is half the fun.

Like I said though each to their own

All the best

Greg

Actually, thinking about it, it's not. I now have a legitimate and bona fide excuse, with full medical backup. Gazza was speaking into the wrong ear!!  Roll Eyes

On that note

Is that the box or the pillion?  Test copilot was Jackie from the IAM group, another 100 miles tomorrow if all goes well.  Then home for a wash [the bike, not Jackie].

Another 120 miles today [ah, the joys of a day off work] and yes, the mirrors have got to go!  I was out with Mad Jackie on pillion and Mad Mike on his FJR which I could barely see in the mirrors.  I'm thinking of trying my Honda ones on the bike, but do Yam use a left handed thread on one of the mirrors?

Pass, sorry. No wish to take a spanner to mine as a) it's bloody cold and b) they're in just the right place and it'll take forever to get them back. Very antisocial I know.

I would recommend Paul's ebay suggestion, they do come up and the standard mirrors on mine are and always have been excellent. (Although of course if you've got some Honda ones and they fit and work - ace.)

Incidentally, although we have outwardly identical bikes, Paul's are crap ( Grin) so no point nicking them. (You see where I'm going with this Mr Court Jester, I'm on your side despite all the insults!! Wink)

All the best

Yup, Yamaha have a reverse thread on one of the mirrors. It is the only manufacturer that does, which means you can only buy mirrors made specifically to fit Yamahas. The XJR has a 10mm thread - lots of OEM and bling options out there if you like. I bought some from a late-model Fazer that fit perfectly.
